The Emerging Leaders Council (ELC) is a group of young decision-makers who will help advance our mission to empower youth voices for climate action by creating campaigns and projects to educate, empower, and activate youth and their local communities for climate action.

The ELC will co-design and lead community projects to mobilize people in their sphere to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and create meaningful impact. Throughout the term, The Climate Initiative (TCI) will provide leadership training and fun sessions for the ELC members to sharpen their skills, grow their networks, and build community. We invite applicants with all levels of experience to apply.

The NextGen Board Members will serve as official members of the TCI Board of Directors and the Emerging Leaders Council, fulfilling responsibilities of both roles. TCI will provide training to serve on the board, in addition to the training and sessions you will receive as an ELC member. Learn about the current Board of Directors here.

All applicants must be based in a FEMA-recognized region of the United States or tribal community, and be 13 to 23 years of age. All applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
